Mental Health and Addiction Treatment in the Greater Boston area.

how to recover from opioid or alcohol adiction

What is addiction abuse?

Drug addiction is a chronic, often relapsing brain disorder that causes complulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences to the drug addict and those around them.

Treatments are available

New Horizon Medical offers an office based opiate treatment program. Specifically trained staff provide treatment, including Suboxone and counseling for those addicted to opiates.

Buprenorphine treatment

Physicians who treat opioid addiction also have the option of utilizing medication assisted treatment and the most common medication used in the treatment of opioid dependence today in buperenorphine (Suboxone).

New Horizons Medical offers an outpatient level of care for alcohol and substance use disorders, medication management, and mental health counseling.

*Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of FDA-approved medications, like Buprenorphine and Naltrexone, accompanied by therapy and counseling as part of a comprehensive treatment option.

Buprenorphine is one of the best medications for the treatment of opioid use disorders. Buprenorphine belongs to a class of drugs called mixed opioid agonist-antagonist, which helps prevent withdrawal symptoms caused after stopping other opioids. Read more about Buprenorphine/Suboxone in our guide.

Naltrexone, administered orally or via injection (Vivitrol), has proven effective and is clinically indicated for both Alcohol and Opioid Use Disorders. Vivitrol, administered monthly, is not a narcotic nor a habit-forming medication. It contains an opioid blocker that can greatly reduce the risks of both alcohol and opioid use disorders.

Chemical dependency can often coexist with other mental and psychiatric disorders. We recognize many of our patients benefit from a multidisciplinary and holistic treatment approach. Specialized psychiatry services are made available when clinically indicated.
